Real Techiques

Hey Ya’ll! We have wanted to try makeup sponges because they seem to be pretty  interesting. Looking at other people swear by them, we wanted to see what the talk was all about.

Real Techniques was created by two sisters who are professional makeup artists, Sam and Nic Chapman. They also have a youtube channel, Pixiwoo.

New Product Review|| Trader Joe’s

Spring is in the air.

Hey Ya’ll it’s Lesley!!  So for the past month I have been using  Trader Joe’s hair products  because I wanted to try something different, and it has paid off. I have been using the Tea Tree Tingle and the Nourish Spa Balanced Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

So let me tell you a few things about them…

2017-03-20 11.38.44 1

Nourishing Spa Balanced Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner

  • Both are enriched with Organic Botanicals ( its infused with plant material that helps with healthy hair production)
  • Balanced shampoo to clean and protect
  • Helps with re-moisturizing dry, brittle hair ( conditioner)
  • Adds moisture and the hair is more manageable
  • Cruelty Free (No Animal Testing Contains no harmful sulfates)

Once I used this product my hair felt soft, my curls were defined, I hardly had any frizz, and it cut my detangling time in half. The conditioner does have a silicone in it, but that’s a good thing for me because I have high porosity and it helps retain the moisture in my hair.

Tea Tree Tingle

  • Contains Tea Tree Peppermint and Eucalyptus Botanicals
  • Suitable for all hair types
  • Contains no harmful Sulfates
  • Cleanses without stripping the hair too much
  • Cruelty Free

This product surprised me the most because I was using peppermint soap to clarify my hair and afterwards I would have to put so much moisture back in. It felt brittle when I was done, but after using the Tea Tree Tingle, it was soft and I still had life in my curls even though I clarified my hair.

These products have changed the way my hair has felt and the way my final styles look and it has been amazing. The price point for both of these products are affordable. You can purchase these items at you local Trade Joe’s or on Amazon in sets for under 20 dollars.

Much Love,

Fav Hair Oils

fav-oils

Hey Y’all!!  The word of the day is..OIL! Not only is it a great sealant but it has other great benefits as well. Like any other products you have to find the one you like and what works.

Here are our favorites…

Erica

Olive oil- I have been using olive oil ever since we started our natural hair journey. My hair just loves it! I use it for pre-poo. It helps to soften the tangles and prep my hair for shampooing.

Grape seed oil- I use this on my scalp and for a sealant after I moisturize. It is light weight and I can use it every other day. It also promotes hair growth.

Coconut oil- I’ve just started to use this on my hair as a sealant. I tried using it for pre-poo and I’m still trying to figure out if I like it or not. (more on this in a future post).

Lesley

Organix Argan Oil of Morocco- I like it because it’s light and it doesn’t weigh my hair down. Unlike my sister I haven’t tried the other oils on my hair but I do want to try and see what others oils out there that I would like.

Here’s a little info on oil and how it works when it pertains to hair:

Oil: any neutral , non polar chemical substance that is a viscous liquid at ambient temperature.

Oils are both hydrophobic “water fearing” and Lipophilic “fat loving”

Non Polar: doesn’t mix with water

Hair Structures

Hair Shaft: part of the hair that sticks out of the skin and scalp

Medulla: deepest layer of the hair shaft; only seen in large and thick hairs

Cortex: middle layer of the hair shaft which provides the strength, color and texture of a hair fiber

Outer layer: thin and colorless and serves as protection to the cortex

Oil seals in moisture it doesn’t create moisture. So if your hair is dry and you apply oil you will seal in the dryness.

❀Our hair is made of dead cells that have turned into keratin and binding material together with small amounts of water

❀Oil  does not permeate the hair shaft because of the small amount of water that holds the shaft together

❀ Leave in conditioner or conditioning styling products are able to permeate the hair because the first ingredient water

What oils are your favorite? Let us know!

Much Love,

Product Junkie???

PJ Pic

Happy New Year Ya’ll !!! I know we have been M.I.A. but we started school and we had to figure some things out. Now we are back!!! Alright so being natural it is pretty much a given that you might become a product junkie.  There are so many  products out there that you almost want to buy them all. So here are our five ways that have helped us to not be product junkies.

1. Get rid of products that you don’t use.

You know that shampoo and conditioner that you bought from Trader Joe’s two months ago. That you only used once. Yeah… that is taking up space and wasting your hard earned money. Giving products that you don’t use to family and friends is a good way to rid yourself of those products you don’t use. It’s a win –win, You free yourself and they don’t have to pay for it.

2. Pick one or two products out of a line

Most companies have several lines under their name. So instead of buying the whole line pick a shampoo and conditioner, styling product or a leave in. This way you can try new things and if you don’t like it you can refer to number one!

3. Use products until the end.

I (Erica) am guilty of this.  I will have a product that is halfway full and I will go and buy another one. Especially if it’s on sale! But I don’t use certain products up quickly so it is unnecessary for me to buy the same product again.  Just use what you have until you are scraping the container.

4.Dedicate a section for your products

This will help keep the products to a minimum. Instead of a whole shelf or a whole cabinet, use half of the shelf or get a cute bin to house the products. This way only a certain amount of products can fit in that space and nothing more.

5. Stick to products that work

Lesley and I know that Shea Moisture works for us. If we want to branch out, we do that within Shea Moisture. This keeps us from buying products that potentially might not work and wasting money. If you want to try something new ask a friend, look at reviews or head to YouTube. See what other naturals are saying about that particular product.

When we first began our natural hair journey, we tried every product we could. But once we figured out what our hair loves and what it doesn’t like, we realized that having all those products hanging around was unnecessary.

Uhhh…The things us curly girls do for our tresses!!

Much Love,
