In today’s society, we are flooded with images on television, magazines and movies that makes us question ourselves concerning our bodies. Social media outlets also have contributed to those questions as well. Check out some of these statistics.
80% of women feel insecure when they see images of women on television, fashion magazines and movies
42% of girl in 1st-3rd grade want to be thinner.
81% of girls who are 10 year old are afraid of being overweight
98% of fashion models are thinner than the average woman in America
More than 50% of teens feel that they should be on a diet… 3% of those teens go as far as becoming bulimic and anorexic
These numbers are alarming and quit disturbing to say the least. Our mother always told us that we were beautiful and the possibilities for us are endless. Now that we are women we have no doubt in our minds that we look good and we love our bodies, no matter how big or small we are.
It is so important that we get back to reinforcing our young girls and teens that they are beautiful just the way they are.
